Region 7 Tour Event 1 Report

07th February

The first Tour of 2009 got underway, with new boy Adrian Walsh playing Tom Kennedy, Adrian got off with a good start taking the first frame, then Tom decided to pick it up and ran off the next 7 frames to be the first match finished.  The match between James McCarthy -  Ian Crowle, saw Ian take a 3-1 lead, then each player winning there lag to see Ian Through 7-5. Sefton Payne had a comfortable 7 – 2 win against a former Tour winner Martin Lambert. We saw a very long hard fought match between London pair Jerry Tickle – Etienne Wagner, Jerry took a 3-1 lead to see Etienne pull it back to 3-3, then Jerry won the next 2 to go 5-3 in front, Etienne decided he better step it up to win the next 3 to go 6-5, which saw Jerry win the next to go to a decider, where Etienne eventually win to go through 7-6. The match between Rob McGowan – Dean Daley saw Dean win the first frame then Rob Stepped it up to win the 6 in a row to go 6-1 up, Dean then win the next, with Rob winning the next to go through 7-2. New to the Tour, Alex Stones had a tough draw to play Dave Hall, where Dave won the first 3, Alex then pulled 2 back, Dave decided enough is enough and win the next 4 frames to go through 7-4. On the Live stream table we had Berkshire pair Dave Bryant – Vikas Sabharwal, which proved to be a hard fought battle, Vikas won the first 2 frames, then they shared the next 4, Dave they pulled it back to go 4-4, where Vikas won the 3 to go through 7-4. Karl Baxter also had a comfortable win against Daniel Tollit, 7-2. As did Ben Mackie with a 7-2 win over Craig Wilson. Last Years Grand Final winner Paul McHale won his match against Adrain Grainger 7-2. Finally Steve Parker lost his first frame to Tony Price, only to win the next 7 to go through 7-1.

The Second Round We had new comer Dev Chadha take on James Green, which saw James through with a 7-4 win, Alan King then had a tough match against Steve Johnson. Alan Took a 6-4 lead before Steve won the next 3 to go through 7-6. Tom Kennedy played Frank Costello (Last years Club Tour R-Up) With the first 7 frames going with the break saw take a 4-3 lead, and come through 7-4. Darren Magor played new comer Ryan Burdett, Ryan held his own for 4-4 to see Darren move up a gear to win the next 3 frames. Ian Crowle  had a tough match against Billy Donovan, which saw Ian come through 7-5. Sefton Payne v Dean Reeve was to prove to be one of the best ties of the round, which saw Sefton take a 6-3 lead, for Dean to then pull back and win the next 4 to go through 7-6. Sean Halligan had a comfortable win over Rob McGowan 7-2. New comer Sukhveer Singh Azad had to take on 2005 Grand Final R-Up Vikas Sabharwal, which saw Vikas com through 7-3. Two Newcomers came head to head in a very tight match, Jordan O’Connor v Shaun Sehmi, which saw Shaun Sehmi pull through 7-6.

The Third round, saw last years Club Tour winner, James Green take on Steve Johnson, Steve won the first 2, then Alex the next 2. Steve then manages to win another 2, to see James come back and win 3 frames in a row to go 5-4, Steve pulled the next back, to go 5-5, with James winning the next 2 to go through 7-5. Darren Magor had a comfortable win over Tom Kennedy 7-1. We had a very tough match between Ian Crowle & Dean Reeve, Ian Crowle was leading 6-3 with 2 visits on his last yellow, which he tried to set it up by doubling it over the right centre back, but managed to over hit it, and leave it so close to the cushion, he tried a very fine cut but hit the near knuckle, Dean stepped in to clear his remaining 5 reds and black to reduce it to 6-4 behind, Dean then managed to win a few safety battles to go through 7-6. Etienne Wagnor then played another London Player Rupert Ward, Eitenne went in to 6-1 lead, then shared the next 2 frames to go through 7-3. Dave Hall then had to play Sean Halligan a 2007 Tour Winner, with the first 7 frames going with the break, saw Dave take a 4-3 lead, and then win the next 3 frames to go through 7-3. Match 6 saw a very tough match between Vikas Sabharwal v Karl Baxter, Karl was leading 6-4, then saw Vikas win the next 6 to take it to the deciding frame, which saw Karl win and go through 7-6. Match 7 saw Previous Tour winners Rod Altes take on Paul McHale, Paul took a 2-1 lead, then saw Rod hit form and win the next 6 in a row, and go through 7-2. The final match of the second round saw Steve Parker take on new comer Shaun Sehmi, Shaun won the first 3, and Steve the next 3, Shaun won the next to go 4 -3 up, Steve then stepped up a gear to win the next 3, and then share the next 2 frames to go through 7-5.

The first Quarter Final Saw James Green take on Darren Magor, with James taking a 3 – 1 lead, before Darren pulled it back to 3-3, they shared the next 4 frames  to make it 5-5. James then stepped up a gear to win the next 2 frames to go through 7-5. The Second Quarter Final saw Dean Reeve take on Etienne Wagner, Dean went into 4-3 lead before Etienne reeled off the next 4 frames to go through 7-4.The third Quarter Final, Dave Hall v Karl Baxter, this proved to be a very close match, Karl won the first 2 frames, Dave then won the next 3 to go 3-2 up. Karl stepped up a gear to win the next 3 frames to go 5-3 ahead, which in turn Dave also stepped up to win the next 3 to go 6-5 ahead, Karl then won the next to take the match into the final frame, which saw Dave grind his way through to the next round. The fourth Quarter Final matched up Rod Altes v Steve Parker, Rod went into a 3-1 lead, and then shared the next 3 frames to make it 4-3. Then Rod won the next 3 frames to go through 7-3.

The First Semi Final saw James Green take on Etienne Wagnor, James Green continued his good form to take a 3-1 lead, Etienne then pulled a frame back before James won the next 2 to go 5-2 in front, Etienne managed to pull another frame back, but James proved to be too strong for him to win the match 7-3. The Second Semi Final saw Dave Hall take on Rod Altes who has won 3 Tour finals, which saw Dave take on a 2-1 lead, he then ran off the next 4 frames to go 6-1, before Rob won his second frame, but Dave finished Rod off on the next frame to go through 7-2.

The Final Saw Dave Hall play in his 6th final, could this one prove to be his first Win in 6 attempts?  Out to Stop him was James Green who won Event 5 final of the Club Tour 2008. Dave started well and won the first frame, Dave to break in the second frame, which James finished in style to make it 1-1, Dave then managed to buy a drink, before he ran off 3 frames in a row to go 4-1 up. The next frame got a bit scrappy but James managed to pull one back. Dave then won the next, but then things started to get scrappy with both players missing shots they wouldn’t normally missed, and saw James win the next 2 frames, take him to only one behind 5-4. Then Dave managed to hold it together, and waited for James to make a mistake, and win the next 2 frames, to win his first final in 6 attempts. Congratulations to Dave Hall.
